Let’s talk about Depression and Anxiety
Depression - Dread about the past - Condemnation
Anxiety - Dread of uncertaintly about the future - fear
The alarm goes off, tolling a new day. But, just as the day before, you awaken with an overwhelming sense of sadness. An unexplainable feeling of guilt and dread hovers over your head like a dark cloud. You are tormented by feelings of unworthiness and defeat. You ask, why”. What did I do to deserve this? Why do I feel so bad”? If I have sinned, surly I would repent. In fact, I have already repented many times just to ensure that my suffering is not a result of unconfessed sin. Why then will today be like yesterday and the day before? Why do so many of my days begin and end in despair? Although there are moments of relief; a chuckle here and there, he truth is, most smiles are feigned attempts to maintain the Christian façade of “having it all together”. When will it all end?
IF you or someone you know is caught in this cycle of despair you are engaged in warfare labeled by the clinical world as depression. As such, you should also know that you are in good company.
In anguish the psalmist David declared:
"For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate."
This story of depression is a far too common condition in the life of believers. It comes without notice and its effects are devastating. It leaves its victims weak and hopelessly caught between two indictments. Guilty as charged by the condemning thoughts of the past, and hopelessly discouraged as they think of the future.
If you, or someone you know is dealing with depression and you find yourself consistently drained of all of your emotional and spiritual strength, I'm here to help.
